January 14, 1947, Larry and Ann Brenning were blessed with the birth of their first child, Linda Ann Brenning, which happened at St Lukes Hospital, Denver, CO.
Linda was the daughter of a career air force enlisted man and a home economics school teacher for a mother.
She tells the story of getting into trouble with the contractors that were building homes around their new home on south Steele Street in Denver, CO. Apparently she would go over, after the workers left and she would take bricks and create little floor plans with rooms and dividers, etc., requiring the contractors to pick up the bricks the next day. Now we know she was practicing to become an Interior Designer, which she got a degree for in 1992. Running Classic Dreams Inc., as a designer and ultimately remodeling consultant completed her training to design and create the beauty and elegance in the Queen Anne Tea Rooms.
The basics in cooking came from her mother, who made sure things were done according to recipes; leading to Comfort Food Linda being able to prepare “Fine Dining,” entree’s for Queen Anne customers.
She did above average in school and college, however, on her 19th birthday she met “Little Allen Ballard,” from Edgewater, CO and that became a two year dating relationship (Little Allen kept running away, however, he finally saw the light, and asked her to marry him.)
Linda and Al were married February 17, 1968 in the same church that Linda grew up in and they settled into their first apartment in Wheatridge, CO and first home in Arvada, CO.
They had two children and now have seven granchildren, who brighten the old house on Macon Avenue, Canon City, CO during the holidays.
Both of her children were college educated and paid for through her budgeting and debt capabilities.
They both worked for investor owned electricity and natural gas companies until 1991 when Linda’s company was closed and she was able to go back to college and earn her degree in Interior Design.
The Canon City Queen Anne concept began in 2001 with the search for the right facility, at the right price, leading to Canon City, CO.
Through Linda’s design degree and Al’s construction background, the old 1889 victorian house was turned into an elegant “Fine Dining,” restaurant and now it includes a Antique’s/Tea Treasure’s Store.
Through Linda’s ability to take design concepts and blend them with themes, each tea room has a personality of its own.
Through Linda’s ability to conceive recipes, blend spices, she is the heart of the Afternoon/Lunch and High/5 course Dinner Teas.
Through Linda’s faith and trust in God, she has been able to cope with the stresses of opening a business, the loss of Al’s income and the enormous debt that was create; Linda is a “faith walker,” totally sold out to the trinity, trusting for every provision.
Linda is a model of a biblical woman, seeking the face of God, working to please others, just like the faithful women of the old testament; for the purposes of seeing others joyful and a future reward in eternity. She is my daily example of a faithfilled woman, a blessing to me, our family, our friends and her customers.
Linda is a model for her children, grandchildren, in faith as well as love under any circumstance.
I am the luckiest guy on earth, to have had a faithful woman like Linda, love me, trust me and be a part of our forty-four years together.
Happy Birthday Comfort Food Chef Linda, all of us love you very much,
Tea Laborer, Al
