Linda and I are blessed to be a part of a group of couples who gather every other week, to share our spiritual lives and support each other in the ministries we have chosen.
Last night, my dear wife, Queen Anne Comfort Food Chef Linda, shared the joy, which we call “Closest to Christ moments,” and it was three ladies coming to Afternoon/Lunch Tea, who had read our story on our website. Linda was happy to hear they had read our website, story and she had the opportunity to share more about this decade sojourn that was prompted by a single book, Purpose Driven Life.
Almost eleven years ago we were semi-retired in a townhome in Westminster and then we read this book who questioned if we were “consumers,” or “servants.” A simple question which stirred us to decide if the layed back life style was what we should be doing.
That began a journey to find a way to serve others and do something together, a true “faith walk.” Most would find the decision to give up a debt free, carefree life; for a debt business serving others with fine dining, foolish; and maybe to the world it is. To us it was a no brainer as we had always been risk takers and a life consumed with what “WE” wanted to do seemed foolish, so off we went to create that opportunity to serve.
My dear faithful wife’s day with these ladies who had read our story, allowed her to reflect on the values in doing something that has meaning; serving others.
With the hundreds of customers we see, on an annual basis, there is no recognition in why the Queen Anne exists, they just come, they dine, they experience and in some cases they make a memory; however, most will never understand the satisfaction in serving vs consuming. I guess that is the gift we receive and we are grateful.
For those who know our story it may seem foolish, risky, hard work, however, for those who know my dear, faith filled wife, they know it is a mission to provide hospitality and for me, if we can encourage one person or couple, it is well worth it. To those who know our story and pray for us, thank you, bless you, please keep it up as not every day are we filled with joy as serving others comes with a certain level of pain and reward.
Thank you Linda, for your love of God, me, family and others, I love you as my servant ‘mate.
