Pie Contest
Linda was asked to be a judge in the 2nd annual Charter School Pie Contest in Guffey, CO (approximately 40 minutes from Canon City, CO)
So, thursday, 2/10, we headed to Guffey and it was good to break the routine, enjoy doing something fun and then get back to a weekend full of events.
After a peaceful trip and a couple of pod cast stories, we arrived at Guffey and drove around a little bit, prior to going to the school. What a wonderful little community, rural, mountain feeling with antique stores and vehicles to view. Arriving at the school, which has 33 students at this time, 1st to 8th grade i believe, we were touched with how inviting it would be to learn in a facility with extremely kind teachers and aids. Linda was one of three judges and she just had a ball, i could tell by her smile. The students put on a fine melodrama and the pie tasting was great; however, the highlight was the auction for the pies to take home. Watching the community kid each other and raise the bids to unbelieveable prices for pie, was full of humor, only out done by the auctioneer who bought his wife’s pie for $160.00 way to go, man. We enjoyed ourselves and met some very wonderful people, who truly care about each other and down the mountain we came, to prepare for a special weekend.
